Biography
Dr. Paul Bamford is a general and structural interventional cardiologist with expertise in coronary intervention and transcatheter valve therapies. He holds two Master’s degrees from Oxford University and began his career in London, specialising in fast-growth pharmaceutical companies within investment banking, before transitioning to medicine and completing his medical training at the University of Warwick.
Dr. Bamford undertook his early medical training in Hampshire, UK, followed by advanced cardiology training on the Central Coast of New South Wales. He holds membership with the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP, London) and fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), and completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
He was awarded the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) Structural Interventional Scholarship, enabling further subspeciality training in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at Leeds General Infirmary: one of the highest-volume and most innovative centres in the UK. During this time, he trained under Professor Dan Blackman, President of BCIS and a leader in structural heart disease.
Dr. Bamford has a strong academic and research interest in complex coronary intervention and transcatheter valve therapies. He serves on the editorial board of Heart, Lung and Circulation and the Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (JSCAI), and has authored multiple peer-reviewed papers in these fields.
He is committed to medical education and is currently completing an MPhil at the University of Newcastle. His clinical practice focuses on coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and TAVI, with an emphasis on delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Bamford has lived and worked in Zimbabwe, Cambodia, and Tanzania, experiences that have shaped his global perspective and approach to patient care.
He works closely with general practitioners to ensure timely investigation, clear communication, and efficient patient pathways.
